Can you create a DR site in 6 months

Somebody might have done it, don't know. Some one might think we are crazy and its impossible; but we are doing it.
Please add its not one to one correspondence but 100 percent DR with state of the art technology at our DR site. I will just give you a glimpse of what we are doing and how.

Our production is a mix bag of:

1. Dell servers for intel needs like Oracle databases (11g rac), MySql on Linux and MsSql on windows, total around 80 non virtualized servers.
2. Dell servers for other application like tomcat, jboss, iis, file srrvers etc which are virtualized, total 300 physical and 1200 virtual instance.
3. Roughly 50 percent are virtualized.
4. Dell servers which makes a 80 node citrix farm
5. Dialers and call recorders for 4000 users
6. We are using exchange with 8000 users
7. We are handling storage of 1.4 pb on EMC vnx and NS480 along with 100 TB on Dell MD3000i storage
8. 80 inhouse developed application running 24x7
9. Core databases running on Oracle M8000 and M5000's with Solaris 10
10. Backup infrastructure of NetBackup 7 and SL500 tape libraries with daily offshore vaulting
11. DC footprint of 80 cabinets
12. Network core at 1 gbps

What we have in DR:

1. 100 percent virtualized on cisco UCS with 25 chasis segregated between DMZ and Internal
2. One to one mapping for solaris server
3. 10 gbps core network
4. Single VNX7500 for all the data with unified option
5. 100 percent capacity for Dialers and every other application.

Challenges:

Many,
1. Moving from physical to virtual is a tough challenge. Application load behaviour was measured through Nagios with custom scripts. We calculated the approx behaviour for the VM capacity.
2. Moving data from primary to secondary site was taken care through poor man's approach. We moved our DR San at primary and configured SAN copy to move the data over fiber. This included the VMWare data stores. Taking consistent snapshots of the primary luns comprising the data stores and moving it to the DR san using san copy.
3. Cisco UCS was totally new to us. Making it work as per our specs was a nightmare, but we managed it.
4. The data replication is being done through Recover point appliance full edition.
5. GSS is being used for site redirection, new to us
6. Application and DB configuration is going on right now.
7. Doing the capacity planning at DR site when changes happen in production on the fly

6 months includes planning and decision as well. Its very tough for us and we know how much we have struggled to keep things in place from ordering equipments to keep track of licenses, vendor negotiations, resource planning, implementation, testing, replication etc and in the same time doing our normal business as usual job.

Its interesting. .........
